Time to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with some great news!
The Standard & Poor’s/Case Shiller housing index showed that home prices dropped sharply in February, 2009, but for the first time in 25 months the decline was not a record. This sign could be indicative that the housing crisis is bottoming. Of course, we will need a few more months of statistics to determine if home prices are finally turning around. Yes, this is certainly an interesting and exciting possibility to consider. However, from a local market standpoint we feel it is always important to remember each geographic area has its own unique factors that need to be analyzed. Does this report translate positively to our community? We are excited to tell you, YES! The real estate activity in our area has dramatically increased. As of April 30th, the pending sales totaled $80,598,577. There has been an increase in showings, offers, pending and closed sales. Buyers and sellers are negotiating and transactions are closing.
Another piece of exciting news around town is the announcement of the new public gondola. Construction is scheduled for the fall and the new eight passenger gondola cabins are scheduled to open as soon as January, 2010. The initial uphill capacity will be 1,800 riders an hour, expandable over time to 2,400 riders an hour. The trip from Wildhorse Meadows to the base area is expected to take 3 minutes. This is another reminder that now is the time to build as labor and building costs are at an all time low.
